The rusty 2004 F250 work truck was taken to NS Diesel & Automotive, drove nearly 400,000 miles, and transformed it into a 700-horsepower 6.0L Powerstroke. Find out what is being built.

Steve Hart and his family grew up in forestry and they always work on their vehicles and skidder to maintain daily operations. Since Steve can walk, he and his father will help him repair skis, tractors and other vehicles that his family uses for business. You can say that cars and diesel work in his blood.

When Steve decided what he wanted to do in his life, his father encouraged him to stay away from forestry.

"When I was growing up, my father told me that if I returned to the forestry industry, he would kill me," Steve Hart joked. "I know how to do two things, that is, falling down trees and repairing diesel engines, so I chose diesel engine repairs."

Today, Steve is the founder and owner of NS Diesel & Automotive in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. The company has 11 employees and occupies 10,000 square feet. Workshops for repairs, maintenance and engine work on the three major diesel platforms. In addition, NS Diesel is also carrying out fleet work as well as heavy duty and transportation work in nine workshops.

However, just four years ago, in May 2017, before Steve opened NS Diesel, he set foot in the industry in several other stores and was shown the right way of doing things by his people.

"I worked for five years in a small shop in my hometown of Windsor, Nova Scotia," Hart said. "Fred Schofield is the name of the shopkeeper, and I only have the highest respect for that person. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have today. I was willing to do anything for that old guy, but I didn’t realize at the time that he did it for me. What. When you were a kid, you didn’t realize the people who were taking care of you. I hated him at that time because he was my boss. He was very strict with me, but now in retrospect, of course I owe him one. Life."

From there, Steve left to work in a Ford dealership, which lasted only a year, after which he got a foreman position at another diesel engine shop. He spent the next five years there before deciding to go out on his own.

"My dream has always been to run my own diesel workshop, manage the fleet, make cool engines, gearboxes and backends, etc.," he said.

Given his current position, part of Steve's passion for the industry is to help children who have a similar upbringing-rough and tough-they never get too many opportunities. If they want, Steve will help them enter this industry and teach them trading skills.

"I hired a few young people right from school," he said. "Evan has been with me since the age of 18, and Cole has been with me since the age of 17. I have been mentoring them. Evan is now a third-year apprentice and he has done most of the engine rebuild for me. "

According to Steve, NS Diesel is a process-driven store that does not use paperwork orders, but uses an iPad to take photos and update customers via text and email as they progress.

"From the moment the customer shows up to the moment they leave, everything is flawless," Hart said. We are a state-of-the-art digital store. In our ancient Nova Scotia, there has never been a real market for what we do. My main focus is on the Big Three and diesel engine maintenance, because no one except dealers does this. We have everything that the three major distributors have. We are a substitute for distributors. "

NS Diesel is also capable of complete engine reconstruction, maintenance and repair work, and has won a good reputation and customer base in the region. Recently, an old customer brought a 2004 6.0-liter Ford Powerstroke to Steve and his colleagues at NS, which needed to be taken seriously.

"Now, the large-scale construction we are doing is the 700-horsepower, 6.0-liter Ford Powerstroke," he said. "This actually started with a long-term customer of mine. He brought me an old 2004 F250 6.0L Ford, which was just a rusty working truck. The cylinder head gasket was so bad that The coolant cap was blown off. He put it down and said here, man, see what you can do with it.

"We took the engine down and removed it-it was just destroyed. It was about 600,000 kilometers (nearly 400,000 miles). It was really not well maintained. We took another engine from a donated truck. , And carried out a comprehensive overhaul."

The renovation started by drilling 0.020˝ of the new engine. NS Diesel retains Mahle's standard rods and main bearings. They used the Mahler valve pressure reducing piston and Mahler ring, and after removing 0.010˝, they surrounded the factory head with an O-ring to increase some compression ratio.

In addition to this work, NS Diesel chose to use industrial injection 30% over 145cc injectors, dynamic diesel valve springs, ARP hardware, BD Diesel 58 volt FICM, BD Diesel high-flow intake pipes and manifolds, BD Diesel flexible plates, and sinister diesel Regulate fuel pressure return, coolant filter kit and oil bypass kit, and innovative diesel tuning.

In order to complete the reconstruction of this 6.0-liter power stroke, NS Diesel used the BD Diesel Stage 2 Screamer turbocharger (10-blade 66 mm/72 mm) to help it reach its horsepower target.

"It was basically brought to us as an old barn truck," Hart said. "Now, you don’t even recognize it. The 2004 Ford was used as a daily driver for the customer and his wife. That’s why we only kept it at 700 horsepower, because as a daily driver, apart from that Anything outside is annoying."
