Chevrolet Performance has long dominated the field of crate engines. Because of its small V8 engine architecture, people use them in everything from racing to Datsuns. But as Ford and Mopar recently demonstrated their prowess on the Godzilla V8 and Hellephant crate engines, GM had to respond in the same way. They did this with a brand new 10.4-liter ZZ632 crate engine. The numbers are staggering: 1,004 horsepower, 876 pound-feet and 7,000 RPM through chunks of cast iron. No forced induction, no displacement. Just the absolute tomahawk of the engine. Therefore, it is not surprising that this factory-supported Hellephant hunter will be awarded at the 2021 SEMA show.

Earlier this week, SEMA announced the winner of its Best New Product Award, which awards the most innovative and cutting-edge aftermarket products that will be put into use in 2022. The award aims to recognize outstanding achievements in product development. There are a total of 16 award categories, each category has a champion and two runners-up. More than 1,300 products entered the 16 different display categories of this year's SEMA New Product Awards. The winners are selected based on factors such as innovative advantages, technological achievements, consumer appeal, marketability and craftsmanship.

For the Performance-Street product category at SEMA 2021, the award was awarded to Chevrolet Performance ZZ632 Crate Engine. The runner-up is the BD Diesel Venom CP3 conversion kit and Ford Performance Eluminator crate motor (battery not included) for the 2019-2020 Cummins Ram truck.

It will be exciting to see people start replacing the engine with this $38,000-plus engine, and the wait may not be long, as Chevrolet Performance recently commissioned Hoonigan to install it in the third-generation Camaro Z/28. In order to handle all the power generation of ZZ632, Chevrolet Performance even developed a special transmission for it, you can read about it here.
