The Jeep Wrangler's six-cylinder diesel engine made its debut in 2020, offering an impressive 260 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. But all good things must eventually come to an end, and Jeep is sending its diesel Wrangler to a farm upstate with one last special edition.
Jeep has introduced the 2023 Wrangler Rubicon FarOut, which marks the end of diesel Wrangler production in the US. In addition to its 3.0-liter diesel V6, the Wrangler Rubicon FarOut includes unique hood graphics and badges, as well as special 17-inch aluminum wheels and LED lighting. The grille is satin black, and the fender flares are painted the same color as the body.
Inside, the Wrangler FarOut carries heated black leather seats with red accents, as well as all-weather floor mats. It also comes equipped with blind-spot monitoring and rear parking sensors, in addition to all the electrical upgrades required for towing, including a 240-amp alternator, auxiliary switches, a receiver hitch and a 7-and-4-pin wiring harness.
Since the FarOut is based on the Rubicon, it's equipped for some serious off-road action from the factory. Dana 44 solid axles are mounted front and rear, and in the middle is a two-speed transfer case with a 4.0:1 low-range gear ratio.
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon FarOut will be available for ordering until November, with deliveries beginning sometime in the fourth quarter of this year. Pricing has not been announced, but for context, the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 carries a $4,000 premium over a standard gas-powered Wrangler Rubicon. Those who aren't quite yet ready to say goodbye will be able to find a diesel option on the Gladiator, although it's unclear how long it will be offered on the Wrangler-based pickup.
