An MBTA Commuter Rail train blocked Main Street in Hanson, Massachusetts, for several hours Friday afternoon after a mechanical issue.

According to the Hanson fire department, there was a fire inside the engine compartment of the commuter rail train near the Hanson MBTA station.

Video From Sky 5 showed the train and locomotive blocking the intersection.

The fire appeared to have involved the 3:33 p.m. Kingston Line train from South Station.

The MBTA said the 4:33 pm from South Station was used to provide outbound service to the remainder of the line's stations for passengers.

"Earlier this afternoon there was an electrical short in the relay cabinet that produced some smoke in the locomotive cab on train 055, the 3:33pm train to Kingston," a statement from Keolis said. "The disabled train was blocking a grade crossing in Hanson. In compliance with safety protocols, train dispatch reached out to local first responders to manage the vehicle traffic in the area and ensure there was no risk of fire due to the electrical failure."

The incident was under investigation, according to Keolis. There were no reports of injuries.
