The Volkswagen Golf R Mk8 has some serious upgrades over the previous Mk7 straight from the factory. But it seems that it is not enough for Blaire from the YouTube channel Mighty Car Mods. This Australian YouTuber took the delivery of a brand-new Mk8 Golf R from the Leichhardt Volkswagen dealership and headed straight to his garage to perform some serious upgrades. The upgrades involve swapping the exhausts, updating the suspension, and inserting new wheels, among others. He also confirmed that his Golf R is the first customer-delivered Mk8 in Australia and would be the first to possess the modifications.

The Mk.8 Volkswagen Golf R was launched back in 2021 in the U.S. The Golf R has been one of the best-selling hot hatches where SUVs are booming. It is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine that delivers 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Furthermore, power is sent to all four wheels via either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DCT. The AWD system is updated with torque-vectoring tech for added track abuse. Car and Driver has recorded naught to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and a standing quarter-mile in 12.5 seconds.

Blaire Joscelyne, who is starred in the video, describes a couple of facts before messing around with the Golf R. He says that the odometer has clocked only 12 kilometers, which translates to 7.45 miles in the States. He also stated that he started ordering the required car parts and equipment from Europe since VW launched the new Golf R pretty late in Australia.

The guys from Mighty Car Mods follow an acronym WRECK IT, which translates to Wheels, Rubber, Exhaust, Coils/springs, Kit, Intake, and Tune. Fortunately, the Mk8 comes with a bigger turbocharger and an updated fuel system, which has helped save time, but there are a few things that Blaire wants to change to spec up the Golf R. He starts with swapping the factory exhaust system with a Milltek Sport exhaust. This exhaust is non-resonated, which means it will get loud, so naturally, the Golf R sounds angrier than it used to and even looks cooler.

The next mod is to change the stock all-weather tires with a stickier set of Michelin Pilot Sport 5s. They are 235/35 in size and are designed for high-performance cars. These tires are fitted to the new Revo RFO alloy wheels, probably 20 inches. Moreover, Blaire wants to drop the ground clearance by 20 mm or 0.78 inches to make the car look sicker. Tinting is the cheapest way to allow privacy and block heat, and Blaire wanted to tint the front glass, since the Golf R comes with tinted rear glass. Finally, the roof was wrapped after changing the chrome mirror caps to gloss-black ones.

Now it’s time for a little under the hood work, and Blaire barely touched the engine apart from replacing the air filter. And lastly, the newly modded Golf R goes for ceramic coating and PPF-ing. Click on the video to see the whole process for yourself.
