The 2022 Ducati Multistrada V2 S is an excellent bike for both daily riding and long trips.

Ever since Ducati came out with the legendary Multistrada 950 back in late 2017, it has been considered one of the most versatile motorcycles money can buy. With an excellent powertrain that could do everything, all the bells and whistles coming in as standard, and the great mix of ride and handling, it soon became one of the best-selling motorcycles if the dual-purpose segment. With the launch of the 2022 Ducati Multistrada V2 S, Ducati has managed to further perfect the already flawless motorcycle.

The 2022 Multistrada V2 S comes with the tried and tested Testastretta v-twin motor, which is known for its impressive performance and tractability, as well as the pleasant engine note. The semi-active suspension makes it one of the best in terms of ride quality. Handling and riding dynamics are better than most of the rivals, too. Offered for sale at a base MSRP of $17,895, the 2022 Multistrada V2 S is here to compete with the likes of the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT and the Triumph Tiger 900.

The Testastretta V-twin motor in the Ducati Multistrada V2 S offers 113 hp and 71 lb-ft of torque. With the motor being found in many of the other Ducati motorcycles like the Monster and the DesertX, it is also one of the more reliable motors from the Italian brand. The motor is highly tractable at the lower RPMs and that makes the Multistrada V2 a great tool for commuting.

This V-twin is also highly refined, and the vibrations are kept well under control, even while redlining. Along with that, the 6-speed gearbox is slick shifting and the clutch is reasonably light too. The mid-range performance is top-notch, and hence overtaking on freeways is an easy affair. Even the top-end performance is excellent, as the motor revs cleanly all the way to 9,000 rpm.

The Testastretta v-twin motor is quite famous for its enticing sound, irrespective of the speed and rpm that the rider does. At the lower RPMs, the motor puts out a slight burbly tone, which makes the ride quite enjoyable. As a result, the Multistrada V2 S attracts a lot of eyeballs when commuting through the city streets.

However, as the revs climb past the 5,000 RPM mark, the motor changes its character. The distinctive raw note emitted from the exhaust at the mid-range RPMs sounds fruity. The scream as you approach the red line at 9,500 RPM is also intoxicating, none of which are offered by any of the rivals.

This 937cc motor is slightly updated from the older 950cc motor, and the main change lies in the weight reduction that the motor has undergone. The components like connecting rod, clutch cover, gear drum, and many more of the engine assembly have seen a total of just under 4 lbs being shaved off.

Along with that, the front and rear suspension assembly have been slightly tweaked, which resulted in a lower weight for both. The alloy wheels are lighter too. Even though it doesn't make the Multistrada V2 S a completely different animal in comparison to the older monikers, the difference is still noticeable in terms of slightly faster acceleration and more confidence-inspiring cornering ability.

The 2022 Ducati Multistrada V2 S is one of the lightest motorcycles in the dual-purpose middleweight segment. It is also much lighter than the Ducati Multistrada V4, which has a curb weight of 529.1 lbs. With a wet curb weight of 489 lbs, the Multistrada V2 S is much more comfortable and easy-to-handle, which could be easily understood during slow city riding.

With a lower weight at the front (due to a much lighter motor), the handlebar is relatively light and that makes the Multistrada V2 S easy to maneuver. The semi-active suspension setup is slightly on the plusher side (in comparison to the Multistrada V4) and that also contributes to a more enjoyable riding experience in the city.

The front end of the 2022 Ducati Multistrada V2 S is handled by the semi-active 48 mm USD forks (fully adjustable) and the rear end gets an advanced semi-active mono-shock system which is also fully adjustable. Since both the front and rear get a sophisticated suspension system, this motorcycle also comes with multiple riding modes (which have the ability to alter the suspension setting through the instrument cluster).

Put the Multistrada V2 S into the Urban mode and the motorcycle glides over the broken roads with utmost comfort. Even the sharpest of the bumps are filtered, which is not possible with the likes of the Tiger 900 and the Tracer 9 GT. If you wish to tour, dial it into the Touring mode and the ride turns out to be calm and composed, with adequate stiffness required for the open highways

Even though the Multistrada V2 S is a dual-purpose motorcycle, it is unlike others in the segment. Being a Ducati, the Multistrada V2 S has got the agility, precision, and the DNA of some of the superbikes from Ducati. The semi-active suspension system, taut steel trellis frame, and the sticky Pirelli tires on the Multistrada V2 S reveal this identity.

Take a sharp corner and the 2022 Multistrada V2 S showcases its excellence pretty well. The motorcycle leans into the corner with ease, is capable of mid-corner direction changes, and could do insane cornering angles too. Due to the excellent motor, the exit speeds are phenomenal as well. The well-engineered chassis coupled with decent weight distribution are some of the other factors which make it quite enjoyable on winding roads.

The Multistrada V2 S comes with 19" 120/70 front tires and 17" 170/60 rear tires. The wheels come wrapped in the off-road-capable Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tires, and that makes the ride excellent on both on and off-road. The tires offer surreal grip, irrespective of the terrain, and that adds to the confidence of the rider.

Another factor that makes the Multistrada V2 S superior in terms of riding dynamics is the braking. This motorcycle comes with a 4-piston Brembo radial caliper with dual 320 mm discs and a 2-piston Brembo caliper with a 265 mm disc. With ABS coming in as standard, the braking performance is top-notch, with excellent initial bite, progression, and minimal fade. The feel and feedback offered by both the front and rear brakes are impressive too.

Ducatis have always been synonymous with beautiful design, and the same ethos can be found in the 2022 Multistrada V2 S as well. The pointy beak, dual-LED headlights, and the well-integrated visor on offer help the motorcycle stand out from the sea of boring motorcycles on the streets.

However, it is the side profile that looks the best. It looks striking due to the sculpted side fairings with a neat sticker job. Blacked-out bits with gunmetal finished engine casings and the contrasting alloy wheel color. The rear end sees an LED taillight setup, a fat 170/60-17 Pirelli tires, and a standard top-box rack.

Many of the features that come as optional extras in the competition are offered as standard in the 2022 Ducati Multistrada V2 S. This motorcycle comes with state-of-the-art electronic assistance systems, which offer safety, comfort, and performance. Five riding modes, a semi-active Ducati Skyhook suspension system, and Bosch 6-axis IMU are onboard to take care of the riding dynamics.

Many features like cornering ABS, Ducati brake light system, Ducati cornering light system, Ducati traction control, and many more are standard too. The 5" TFT display in the place of the instrument cluster offers an intuitive interface. The Ducati Multimedia System helps to showcase navigation, music, phone, message, and other information on the screen as well.

Some of the Ducatis of yesteryear had a terrible reputation for overheating. They were also synonymous with unreliability due to the dreaded electronics and engine-related issues, making them highly undesirable for people who tend to ride their motorcycles quite often. However, the Multistrada V2 S is not one of those Ducatis.

Even though the Multistrada V2 S comes with a high compression ratio motor, the radiator does a wonderful job of keeping the temperature under control. As a result, the temperature never exceeds 100 °C. Because of this, the Multistrada V2 S also doesn't have the infamous head gasket issues. Apart from the regular oil and filter changes along with the Desmo service at every 15,000 miles, it required no major changes or repairs for the majority of the buyers.

The more refined base model should appeal to anyone looking to make the move to an ADV bike.
