Chevrolet has just launched the largest and most powerful crate engine ZZ632/1000 ever. The company revealed in a press statement that the naturally aspirated 10.4 liter (632 cubic inches) V-8 engine can produce 1,004 horsepower and 876 pound-feet of torque.

According to Chevrolet, the Big Block V-8 reached 1,004 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and rose to the recommended maximum of 7,000 rpm. The automaker explained that fuel is pumped into the engine through an eight-port injector, and the machine breathes through high-flow aluminum cylinder heads on CNC machine tools. These cylinder heads are all the same size to ensure that they all provide similar power.

The mold for this engine is the same as that of the previous Performance's 9.5-liter ZZ572 crate engine (for COPO Camaro), although the casting has been adjusted to accommodate a displacement of 632 cubic inches. For reference, COPO Camaro ZZ572 is Chevrolet’s largest engine ever. Its power is so powerful that COPO is not legal on the streets.

This new crate engine covers more than 200 simulated towing channels on the dynamometer. It will be exhibited at the 2021 SEMA show at the Las Vegas Convention Center next month. The price of the engine has not yet been announced. Drive pointed out that the retail price of the automaker's ZZ572 engine is approximately $16,000. Delivery will begin next year. Therefore, the price will be announced soon.

"This is the biggest and worst crate engine we have ever built," Russ O'Blenes, Director of General Motors' Performance and Racing Propulsion Team, explained in the company's statement. "As the king of performance, the ZZ632 is at the top of our unparalleled crate engine lineup. It provides incredible power, and it is achieved by pumping air."

The introduction of this engine is contrary to GM's plan to be fully electric by 2035. The company recently launched a new Ultium series electric motor that will provide 1,000 horsepower for the electric Hummer.
